5 Highlights of THE GALáPAGOS

Bartolomé Island & Pinnacle Rock

A visit to Bartolomé Island offers one of the most iconic views in the Galápagos. Climb to the summit for a panoramic sweep of lava fields and views toward Isabela’s volcanoes, before descending to nearby golden beaches. Here, Galápagos penguins dart through the shallows and sea lions bask on the rocks, while snorkellers drift alongside reef fish in calm, sheltered bays.

Española Island

Española Island feels raw and untamed, home to some of the archipelago’s most dramatic wildlife spectacles. Watch waved albatross perform their elaborate courtship dances and marine iguanas pile together in vivid red and green hues. Along the cliffs, Nazca boobies nest undisturbed, creating a powerful sense of nature unfolding without interruption.

Fernandina Island

Fernandina is the youngest and most pristine island in the Galápagos, where life clings to stark black lava landscapes. Access is limited to Punta Espinoza, a narrow peninsula of volcanic rock and mangrove. Thousands of marine iguanas bask in dense colonies, while cormorants dry their wings along the shoreline. With no introduced species, the island offers a rare glimpse into an untouched ecosystem.

Santa Cruz Highlands

In the lush highlands of Santa Cruz, the Galápagos reveals a softer, greener side. Giant tortoises roam freely through misty fields and forested reserves, moving slowly through their natural habitat. Explore underground lava tunnels carved by ancient eruptions, and wander through humid Scalesia forests where the air feels worlds away from the arid coastline.

Kicker Rock (León Dormido)

Rising dramatically from the ocean, Kicker Rock is one of the best snorkelling and diving sites in the Galápagos. Towering above at 150 meters, this volcanic tuff cone resembles a Sleeping Lion. Above the cliffs are nesting sites for blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies, and frigatebirds. Glide through the narrow channel between its towering cliffs, where currents attract schools of fish, sea turtles, and even hammerhead sharks.
