Itinerary – Women’s Safari to Malawi October-November 2026

Days 1 - 2
Kara O'Mula Lodge - Mulanje mountain
Kara O’Mula is a serene mountain retreat amidst lush greenery and mountain vistas, offering a tranquil base, with modern comforts, at the foothills of Mulanje Mountain. Surrounded by tea estates and just minutes from the region’s renowned hiking trails and Likhubula Falls, this serene hideaway is ideal for travellers in search of eco-resorts in Mulanje and authentic encounters with nature. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Mulanje offers even more reason to explore its breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity.

Days 3 - 4
Thawale Lodge - Majete Wildlife Reserve
In a prime location, Thawale Tented Lodge is set on the edge of a pristine waterhole that regularly attracts a wide variety of wildlife, including a family of elephants that often frequent the area. Within the reserve boundaries, the lodge is completely unfenced to give guests a unique experience in the natural surroundings. The word ‘thawale’ means a natural pan that fills with water after the rainy season. Enjoy early morning and afternoon game drives in Majete Wildlife Reserve, offering the best chance to spot the Big Five!
Accommodation: eight tented en-suite chalets. Thawale is fully electrified, and chalets have sockets, phone network and fans. The chalets are spaced out to offer guests privacy with an individual bush experience. A communal lapa (traditional lounge area) with a fully staffed kitchen serving fresh meals in the beautiful, thatched restaurant, is in the centre of the camp.

Day 5
Kefi Hotel & Cafe - Zomba Plateau

Days 6 - 8
Mvuu Camp - Liwonde National Park
Mvuu Camp is situated on a spectacular vantage point on the banks of the Shire River which is a magnet for wildlife and draws an abundance of fauna to its banks. From dawn to dusk, your time here will be unforgettable, early morning bush walks, slow sailing on the Shire and thrilling game drives. As the sun sets, explore the wilderness, searching for wildlife such as lion, cheetah and wild dog whilst enjoying the serene beauty of the park before returning to the lodge for a delicious dinner in a traditional boma under the starry African sky.
Accommodation: this charming camp offers an authentic bush experience, blending rugged nature with comfortable tented chalets. The unique stone and canvas chalets are a testament to this mix, providing private en-suite bathrooms and verandas. A small communal plunge pool is available for cooling off during the day, while the main thatched-roof dining and lounge area, with its breathtaking river views, is the heart of the camp.

Day 9
Namalikhate Lodge - Mua Mission
Namalikhate Lodge, set within an old Catholic Mission in Dedza, with its cool climate and stunning landscapes, is a perfect stop for history, art, and nature lovers. Dedza is known for its scenic highlands, rich history, and cultural heritage. Home to the UNESCO-listed Chongoni Rock Art, it offers a glimpse into ancient rock paintings and traditions. Explore Dedza Pottery for handcrafted ceramics, hike the Dedza Mountain trails and visit Mua Mission, the site of the KuNgoni Centre of Culture & Art, for an immersive cultural experience.
Accommodation: basic but authentic, African-style rondavel chalets. Uniquely decorated with a cultural and artistic theme, the beautifully furnished en-suite shower rooms with two single beds, a desk and a chair. Overlooking the Nadzipokwe River, the restaurant is set in a tranquil setting surrounded by an attractive, flower-filled garden.

Days 10 - 12
Blue Zebra Island Lodge - Lake Malawi
Located in the Central Region of Malawi, The Blue Zebra Island Lodge is situated in the Lake Malawi National Park on Nankhoma Island, which forms part of the Marelli Island Archipelago, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The three islands are home to a vast array of fresh water fish, including some of the most rare and colourful in the world. The island supports diverse flora and fauna and is a bird watchers paradise. Your days can be spent exploring, relaxing, kayaking, snorkelling in the crystal-clear shallows, or taking a guided nature walk.
Accommodation: the rooms will be varied however all are en-suite; the chalets are spacious and have a canvas partition which separates the bedroom from the en-suite bathroom, where you will find a toilet and hot and cold shower. Imagine waking up to the sounds of nature, with Lake Malawi’s lightly crashing waves and chirping birds!
