Itinerary – Family Self Drive Safari
Day 1
Audi Camp, Moremi Game Reserve
Audi Camp is situated 12km from Maun on the road into the Moremi Game Reserve. The reserve offers superb Okavango scenery and a true Okavango wilderness experience. The Okavango Delta is one of the last remaining unspoiled wilderness areas of Africa. The Delta is fed by the floodwaters of Central Africa and covers a vast area. A mokoro trip is a fantastic way to experience the wonders of the Okavango Delta. Get ready for your adventure.
Accommodation: en-suite tents with cooking facilities. At the camp, facilities include a swimming pool and a great bar – the perfect place for rehydrating after a bush adventure and a long, hot, dusty drive.
Days 2 - 3
Sango Safari Camp – safari in Moremi
Sango Safari Camp is nestled in the shade of the trees overlooking the Khwai River. Situated on the outskirts of Khwai and on the border of Moremi Game Reserve with access to both these magnificent wildlife areas, Sango Safari Camp is focused on delivering an exceptional wildlife experience – allowing you to take advantage of a host of wildlife activities including open vehicle game drives in Moremi and the Khwai area, guided bush walk and night drives.
Accommodation: en-suite meru tents designed in the style of the classic tented safari camp of days gone by. The Camp aims to rekindle the atmosphere of the luxury mobile safari camp, successfully blending the rustic with the luxurious.
Day 4
Audi Camp, Moremi Game Reserve
Return to Audi Camp, journeying back through Moremi. Mobile safaris into the surrounding areas (Moremi, Chobe, Kalahari, and the Salt Pans) and mokoro (dug-out canoes) trips into the Okavango Delta. In the company of a professional poler with vast experience of the Delta, you will be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of this unique habitat. At the camp, you can book helicopter rides, guided bird walks, cultural village tours, horse riding and scenic flights.
Accommodation: as Day 1 – en-suite tents. They offer camping sites with and without power points for those who like to do it themselves. If you don’t feel like cooking, you can always visit the restaurant.
Days 5 - 6
Elephant Sands - camp out on salt pans
Elephant Sands is located in an unfenced 16,000 ha private conservancy in north eastern Botswana. The lodge is named after the 95,000 resident and migrating elephants in this area. The area is abundant with wildlife in addition to elephant; there is also giraffe, lion, leopard and wild dog, hyena, as well as the smaller species such as genet, civet and honey badgers. The bird life is bountiful. Included in this is a night camping out on the salt pans.
Accommodation: en-suite chalets each with a unique view of the watering hole. The rooms are comfy and uniquely setup to bring you closer and to enhance the experience with the beautiful nature. Watch the elephants passing by.
Days 7 - 8
Chobe Safari Lodge - elephants galore
The lodge shares a border with Chobe National Park. Chobe’s wildlife roams in abundance and diversity and is home to the largest concentration of elephant in Africa. During the dry season these large herds, as well as vast herds of buffalo, congregate along the fertile flood plains of the Chobe River where they come to drink, bathe and play. Sightings of lion, African wild dog, puku, red lechwe, sable, giraffe and roan antelope are frequently reported in the area.
Accommodation: all luxury rooms are en-suite with all the mod cons. Rooms face out over the river or the green expanses of lawns, giving you the privacy of enjoying the stunning views of the Chobe River from the comfort of your own room.
Day 9
Bayete Guest Lodge, Zimbabwe - Victoria Falls
Bayete Guest Lodge is family, owner-run lodge and situated in a quiet residential area of Victoria Falls. Set in a lush tropical garden, a quiet tranquil oasis haven away from the bustle of town. Visit one of the World’s Seven Natural Wonders, the majestic Victoria Falls. Spend a day at Victoria Falls and see the Falls from a number of different viewpoints. Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world – hence its almost universal appeal to visitors.
Accommodation: rooms are set in a lush tropical garden. There are 30 rooms and each one is just a little bit different from the next. The rooms are well equipped with all of the essentials such as mosquito nets, air-conditioning and toiletries.
Days 10 – 11
Zambezi Adventure - walking and canoeing
Get deep into the bush with a 2 night, 3 day canoeing and walking adventure on the Zambezi river. You’ll enjoy one of the continent’s wildest experiences, where game can be viewed from a unique vantage point. The canoeing and walking safaris regularly encounter big game in the form of elephants, hippos and crocodiles. A fantastic array of resident animals and birdlife onlong the way. The canoeing is suitable for beginners, encountering grade 1 and 2 rapids.
Accommodation: mobile tented camp, which is fully assembled in preparation for your arrival. The camp comprises large walk in tents, camp beds, mattresses, sheets, pillows and duvets. Hot showers and a portable toilet. Camp in style!
Day 12 - 14
Lokuthula Lodge - adventure in Victoria Falls
Stunning luxury lodge. ‘Lokuthula’ means ‘place of peace’ and this lodge is a tranquil haven to end your holiday. The lodge is close to a waterhole popular with wildlife including elephant, buffalo, and hyena. Victoria Falls is the Adventure Capital of Africa, so there is a lot for you to do, whether it be a bungee jump or gorge swing for the thrill seekers, a family cycling adventure, a birding safari for the avid birders, or a relaxing sunset cruise. There’s something for everyone.
Accommodation: the three-bedroom lodges, accommodate a maximum of eight people, all equipped with necessary amenitites. Outside, there’s a tranquil private terrace with dining furniture and a braai (barbeque) area.
