Days 1 - 2
Anib Lodge – immerse into the Kalahari
On the Eastern fringes of Namibia, the red sands of the Kalahari beckon. There’s nothing like feeling the good earth underfoot. Stretch your legs on the trails around Anib lodge, keeping eyes open for springbok, zebra and wildebeest. Anib Lodge is a relaxed place for a taste of the Kalahari. Take the chance to absorb the energy of this distinctive region. When the sun dips in the late afternoon it lights up the sand as if glowing from an inner fire. Pause for Kalahari magic.
Accommodation: rooms are situated in a courtyard overlooking the swimming pool or out into the bush. Each room offers twin beds with en-suite bathroom facilities and air-conditioning.
Days 3 - 5
Fish River Lodge - marvel at Fish River canyon
Fish River Lodge has been built in harmony with its stark, striking surroundings paying tribute to the amazing landscape. There are spectacular views of the Fish River Canyon from sunrise to sunset. Few environments in the world can reveal the earth’s layers as dramatically as the Fish River Canyon. To experience the beauty and serenity first hand, lace up your hiking boots, grab your binoculars and join a private journey along and down into the canyon.
Accommodation: 20 private chalets are dotted along the edge of the canyon, flanking both sides of the main lodge. The beds have a prime spot from which to gaze over the majestic canyon. Watch the sun wash a kaleidoscope of colours over the landscape every morning.
Days 6 - 7
Desert Horse Inn - desert plains
Located in the Aus Mountains at 1,400 metres above sea leavel, the Desert Horse Inn affords grand vistas of mountain scenery and sweeping desert plains. Relax with sundowners on the wooden deck before enjoying a 3-course meal in the restaurant. Nearby is Kolmanskop, where diamonds were found in 1908, now being swallowed up by the Namib Desert sand. This deserted diamond settlement now offers the chance to take extraordinary pictures.
Accommodation: there are 24 spacious and tastefully decorated en suite rooms. Each room has its own private entrance and verandah with a wooden table and two chairs. The rooms are open plan, simply furnished, with the bedroom off a small lounge.
Days 8 - 9
Tok-Tokkie Walking trails – remote hiking
Tok Tokkie Trails operate in the Namib Rand Reserve and it is the great way to get off the beaten track and experience the deserts stunning beauty in its true form. The terrain is varied from mountain features to sand dunes giving you the unique opportunity to experience the different aspects of the desert. Be expertly guided through this enchanting landscape learning about the natural environment as well as the myriad of animals and insects that are found here.
Accommodation: sleep out under the stars which is a real privilege in Africa. Camp beds are provided along with all the bedding and there are hot bucket showers and a long drop toilet. The premise is to have a minimum impact on this fragile environment and to enjoy nature to its full.
Days 10 - 11
Elegant Desert Lodge - explore Sossusvlei
Elegant Desert Lodge is near Sossusvlei in Namibia. Guests enjoy excellent service and superior amenities during their stay at this quaint lodge which is in the scenic desert landscape. The perfect base to explore the area. You can see for miles and the silence of space is deafening. In the early morning drive into the National Park and onto Sossusvlei to walk amongst the dunes; go photography mad. Sunrise is the best time of day to see this sea of inspiring dunes.
Accommodation: the lodge features 29 well-appointed stylish rooms with en-suite bathrooms as well as coffee and tea facilities. The rooms offer a great place for relaxation with modern finishes and all the comforts of home.
Day 12
Corona Guest Farm – relax and walk
Corona Guest Farm is a traditional Namibian guest farm, set in the centre of a plateau and surrounded by picturesque mountains. There are a number of trails starting from the farm and it is the perfect base to climb Gamsberg Mountain. Set away from the main house is a large, sparkling swimming pool, surrounded by shaded sunbathing and lounging space; ideal after a walk in the hills. The night sky here is spectacular, a dark sky full of pin pricks, magical.
Accommodation: there are standard en-suite rooms which are part of the farmhouse. These bright, cheerful rooms are modern and uncluttered. Outside these rooms is a long, shaded veranda where you can relax after a day exploring the area. The whole set up is peaceful and serene.
