Environmental, Social and Governance ESG Policy

WHAT IS ESG?

ESG is a set of standards measuring a business’s impact on society, the environment, and how transparent and accountable it is. At Sense Earth we are proud to be caring and supportive, environmentally and socially, when designing and leading our safari holidays.

ESG AT SENSE EARTH

Sense Earth has a transparent plan that focuses on helping the environment, supporting diversity and equal opportunities, and ensuring ethical business decisions. This goal runs through the whole business from how we operate at home to when we are overseas.

When overseas we offer a low-impact way of seeing the world and endeavour to follow eco-tourism guidelines. We travel to areas where our presence can contribute to protecting the environment and we introduce our guests to conservation efforts and organisations. Our guests are sensitive to habitats and wildlife and how to preserve them for others.

Sense Earth has been involved over the years in various projects and we give on-going support in the countries we visit.

Jenny Bowen, Director at Sense Earth, is a qualified ecologist. The passion for sustainable travel and being responsible for our earth is emphasised through how we organise our holidays.

Sense Earth ESG Policy

Environmental

  • Encourage our guests to be responsible tourists and travel with respect and sensitivity to the local environment.
  • Refrain from littering and avoid buying single-use plastics.
  • Encourage guests to take shorter showers and not leave taps running when cleaning teeth – water is a scarcity.
  • Use local tour guides.
  • Support local conservation projects and community initiatives.
  • Donate £25 per guest to Ecologi projects for every holiday we organise. This supports either reforestation, carbon avoidance, carbon removal or habitat restoration in the destination (or its neighbour) that has been visited.
  • We conserve energy, water, reduce waste and reduce need for transport in the UK.
  • Encouraging recycling and reducing the amount of waste destined for landfill in our offices.
  • Reducing carbon emissions by changing to LED lighting.
  • Consideration for the local people where we visit.

Social

  • Consideration for the local people where we visit interacting in a sensitive manner and being mindful about photos.
  • Encourage guests to buy handicrafts and souvenirs from local stalls rather than imported souvenirs from neighbouring countries.
  • Hire local guides and drivers.
  • Book into locally owned lodges.
  • Work with local communities.
